IN HONOUR OF THIS SCARLET-CARPETED EVENING

Oscar Party very soon, better run out and get some cheap red wine... If District 9 wins Best Picture then I won't have to spend the rest of the evening trashing Avatar or Hurt Locker... Very few of the films up for awards mean very much to me so I'll mostly be watching for the fun of the party. [The only films mentioned that I liked or admired are Up, Fantastic Mr. Fox, The White Ribbon and District 9. The rest I either know nothing about, haven't seen and/or tried to watch but didn't/couldn't (manage to) care to finish... Still, here are my Major Category Predictions with what I think should win declared in brackets]:

Best Costume Design: Nine (The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus)

Best Film Editing: Inglourious Basterds (District 9)

Best Visual Effects: Avatar (District 9)
